NGOCSTIP – TNI AL (Indonesian Navy) successfully intercepted a human trafficking scheme on November 30, 2024, preventing the illegal transportation of 17 Indonesian migrant workers and 24 foreign nationals from Bangladesh. The authorities planned to smuggle the individuals from Dumai, Riau, to Malaysia through unauthorized sea routes. The Indonesian Navy’s swift action led to the arrest of two suspects involved in the operation, effectively dismantling the trafficking ring and rescuing the victims.
Authorities exposed the illegal trafficking operation after receiving a tip-off about the movement of migrant workers and foreign nationals being trafficked across the waters to Malaysia. Acting quickly on this intelligence, TNI AL coordinated a combined effort from both land and sea teams. The sea patrol teams worked to monitor the coastal areas, while the land team investigated and identified key locations associated with the trafficking operation.
During their efforts, the land team discovered a black Xenia vehicle near the coast, dropping off individuals who were about to be smuggled into Malaysia. The authorities identified at least ten Bangladeshi nationals among the group. Further investigation revealed that one of the suspects, YN, a 43-year-old man from Bangkinang, drove the vehicle. Coordinating with the sea team, the land team was able to quickly apprehend the individuals involved and prevent their escape.

Following the identification of the trafficked individuals, authorities discovered 17 Indonesian migrant workers. Who were also part of the illegal operation, alongside 14 Bangladeshi nationals.
